Search Engines, the best and many ways to use them

By: Otha R. Bagby

I can remember the times when the average citizen didn’t have the knowledge or resources to execute any form of investigation on his or her own, with exception of the public libraries.  The Public Library is a very power source of finding anything thing you might need, but before computers, Internet search engines, search Web sites, and many other online search tools, global search had never been as thorough and convenient as it is today.  The ability of the average citizen to perform a very comprehensive search for products, services, business forms, business applications, or anything else you can think of has quadrupled due to computers and Internet search tools.  It’s all done at the convenient of sitting at your computer.  Computers and Internet search engines have put everything at the ends of our finger tips.

How to use the search engines

Many people don’t get the best result from their use of Internet search engines, because they don’t know the many search methods that can be use to perform their searches.  Some people only know of one search engine, and they don’t realize there are different methods of search that can be performed on it.  There’re many Internet search engines and they don’t all pull up exactly the same information on the same keywords you type into their search windows.  If you want a thorough search on the keywords you’re searching for, it is much better to use more than one search engine to do your search.

Each search engine operates by different rules and has different ways of gathering the information you submit to them for search.  There is one very large search engine who forces the people and merchants who submit their information and Web site, to wait for months before they are actually put into the search engine for searchers to search.  The problem with this method is old and out dated information.  You need to know you’re getting the freshest information and Internet offers in your results when you search.  There are some large search engine such as MSN Search that finds new information two or three days after it’s been uploaded to the Internet, the new information is quickly placed into the search engine to be searched.  Yahoo and many other Web search engines are very good at keeping their searches current and stable. The information isn’t relocating every few days and usually you can always find the information in the same place.  You can find old information and new information you’re searching for very well on most search sites that’s out their.

Different methods of searching

The different method of searching for your keywords are, Web: Meaning searching the internet for your results, Images: You’re allowed to search the internet for any pictures that’s attached or related to the keyword you are searching for.  This is a very good method.  You will be surprised at the results you will find in this method.  Once your search is complete you only need to click on the mode you want to search with, which will appear above the search box, Audio: with this mode you can search for any audio pods that might be attached or related to your keywords, Video: If there are any video clips or pods related to your search, if the search find them, you will find them here, News: To check to see if there is any type of news in different publication on the Internet related to your keywords, use this method, Yellow Pages: From here you can actually search the phone companies listing for businesses, White Pages: The white pages allows you to search for a person or people listed in the residential section of the phone companies listings. The categories you have to choose from will depend on the search engine you’re using at the time.

When entering keywords

When you’re entering your keywords into the search box on the search page, don’t get stuck on just entering only the word you are concerned with finding.  You can search for only the word you’re concerned with during the first search attempt, but, you can get much more information to add to that information you’ve already found, by adding other word that relate to your keywords.  Sample: first attempt keyword: Hollen Weed, second attempt: Hollen Weed, Needles, Ca. third attempt: Hollen Weed, Stickelar Company, fourth attempt: Hollen and Francis Weed, Kansas City.  Are you getting the gist yet?  You can do the same thing with any keywords you are searching for, just think of anything that will let the search engine cue in on the result you are looking for.  Do the same thing on different search engine.  If you can’t find what you are looking for on one search engine, don’t stop looking for it.  Compare the information you found on each search engine to decipher which one has the best information.  If you are looking for goods and services, you can pay a higher price by accepting the first information you come up with.  Even when you are using the different modes of search, play with your keywords the same way; you will get different results by using different phrases.

The search support words which you choose to add to your main keyword, depends on your imagination, and will give you the best result, as you think of words and phrases that is connected to the main keyword in some way.   Say for instant, I’m looking for a special type of red wood that’s used for building fences that my father use to use when I was a kid.  I enter into the search engine “Red wood” and submit the search, I will probably get thousands of hits on those two keywords.  More hits than I could ever browse through, and might still not find the brand I want.  Then I remember hearing my father say he bought the wood in Spark, Texas, and there was only one company that sold that type of red wood.  Then I entered this key phrase into the search engines “fence red wood, Spark, Texas.  That narrows the search for the search engine and it will probably bring the Web site for that company up on the first page.  The secret is to use more than one search engine to do your search, because the search engines will pick up the same result along with different results from each other.  Don’t just pick the first two or three hits you see on the first page and then you’re done.  You won’t get the best deals or results that way.  You will also get better result if you read pass the first two or three pages of results.  If there are many hits on a keyword you entered, it might be impossible for them all to fit on the same page.  This will constitute the need for additional pages to accommodate all the hits you received in that search results, it doesn’t mean the first hits are better than the hits at the bottom of the pages or the other pages.  Look at as many hits as you can and make a sensible comparison of all the hits you receive from your search.

To find more search engines to work with, you can even search for “Search Engines.”

You will find more search engines than you can use.

Now, your first assignment is to research my name: Otha R. Bagby, you can even drop the “R” form my middle initial and notice the difference in the results you receive, just by dropping the “R” and searching Otha Bagby.  Have fun.

After you’re finish playing with that, you can go shopping at the best online shopping Web site on the Internet.
